Many Kenyan adolescents face tough challenges growing up, such as abuse, neglect, or family problems, which can increase the risk of depression, anxiety, and bullying, especially for boys. This study surveyed 2,842 young people across 42 schools and found that higher adversity scores were linked to worse mental health outcomes. These findings show the urgent need for trauma-informed support in schools and services that help young people cope with challenges. Improving adolescent mental health is not just a health issue it affects education, communities, and overall development. Action from schools, government, social services, and communities together can create a system that helps every young person thrive.
